We are very proud of our current Part 1 Architectural Assistant Andrzej Bak (bottom row, second left) who will be taking up the role of Project Leader again this summer as part of CAUKIN, a group introducing fun, creative and innovative design around the world. The group aim to empower local communities, enabling them to continue being creative after projects are completed, by developing their knowledge and skills in the field of architecture.

Following completed projects in Cambodia and Indonesia, this year CAUKIN will design and build a Community Hall and a Kindergarten/ Nursing Station on the island of Vanua Levu, Fiji. They will be working alongside the Naqaqa Giving Foundation, a non-profit organisation that supports and provides resources to villages in Fiji so that they can develop in a manner consistent with their own values and ideals.

The brief for the projects has now been issued and the group invites students of construction-related fields and young professionals to apply to their 3 and 6 week design-and-build programmes. For more information go to www.caukinstudio.com/joinus

“CAUKIN was set up to provide communities around the world with important resources whilst at the same time creating an opportunity for our volunteers to be engaged in real architectural projects and to experience new cultures.

I co-led the PLAYdium project last year in Bali, Indonesia where I gained invaluable design and project management experience, working with local materials and alongside local people. The two builds will enable a team of local people and volunteers from around the world to build back vital community buildings in the aftermath of last year’s devastating Cyclone Winston.” Andrzej Bak
