A significant refurbishment and extension project that set out to return a 19th Century property, sub-divided in the 1940s, to a grand, single dwelling of 10,387 sq ft. The property is set in 2.5 acres of private grounds and is located within a conservation area and the green belt.
The design included the addition of a completely new wing that replaced the lower quality dwelling and improved the building’s symmetry. A low impact and sensitive single storey extension was added to the new wing; a modern architectural addition clearly distinguishable from the arts and crafts style of the house. Complimentary materials were used with Cotswold Stone additions to add grandeur which has successfully delivered a continuous external aesthetic.
Internally the layout was completely altered to resolve the building as one single family home and to provide improved living accommodation. A generous new staircase links the house together in a cohesive manner. The basement was extended to 2,411 sq ft to include a swimming pool, changing room, sauna and wine cellar.
